6th, 7th and 8th graders attended the Tony Award winning musical, “Movin’
Out.”
As part of McGuffey's Cloud Club, students attended a performance of Billy Joel/Twyla Tharp Broadway musical, "Movin' Out." Cloud Club is a McGuffey tradition dating back many years, named for the cheap seats they would purchase, typically in the back of the theatre in the clouds.
McGuffey upper unit students and their parents, who act as drivers and
chaperones, purchase season tickets to the Dayton Broadway
series each year and attend the six different shows. After dinner together,
the group drives to Dayton and sees the show at either the historic Victoria
Theatre or the new Schuster Theatre. When the play is over students return
home, usually around midnight, and are still in class, with homework
completed, the next day. Not only is this a cultural event, but a life
lesson in finding a balance between recreation and responsibility.
