02.01.08Preparing for Model UNAfter weeks of researching, writing, speaking, and rewriting, twenty-two students are off to Model UN. They've gathered their speeches, computers, costumes, dress clothes, and courage for their annual trek to Columbus. They’ve worked through the issues affecting their own countries and the other countries in their councils along with seemingly endless writing, practicing, and rewriting. Here is a roster of our countries our students represent and their resolutions: China – Cleaning up nuclear waste through a process discovered by Russian and Israeli scientists last year allowing toxic waste to become safe gravel and glass-like material. Nepal – Expanding the Product (Red) concept to fund treatment and development of resources for victims of the Southeast Asia sex trade. Romania – Providing standards of health care for European orphans and a mechanism for checking on their conditions. South Korea – Alleviating the blight of air pollution, moving beyond the Kyoto Protocol and the recent talks in Bali. Turkey – Dealing with the situation at its eastern border with the PKK. Venezuela – Establishing mobile schools to aid homeless children.
