Students are SOARing!
For the fourth year, McGuffey is SOARing! SOAR is a lunch recess activity program that involves kids (and occasionally teachers or grown-ups) running or walking or skipping or sauntering laps around the two backyards. While it was initiated as a social fitness option, last year we added a service component. By signing up pledges to contribute money for completed miles, we were very proud to raise over $800 for Oxford’s Family Resource Center. This year we hope to continue this effort and raise money to support the nearby food pantry. We learned that summer is a lean time for the pantry. Demands increase in the summer because students don’t have access to school-based breakfast and lunch programs.
Parents punching card and encouraging runners who are flying around the schoolyard. Many students have run multiple miles and have been awarded bracelets knotted and woven by industrious and generous fifth and sixth graders. Mileages are climbing and we’re enjoying the weather and the company as we raise money for a good cause!
